APA manages both the port in Oranjestad and the port in Barcadera. APA is an organization with ambitious plans for the future and is looking for candidates for the position:

Port Traffic Controller

Primary duties & responsibility:
As a Port Traffic Controller, you ensure a smooth and safe traffic management from inbound and outbound vessels from the Ports of Oranjestad and Barcadera, communicate and coordinate with vessels, pilotboat/pilotboat crew, tugboat/ tugboat crew and pilots. The Port Traffic Controller is also responsible for processing vessels request and allocate berths in accordance with procedures. Additionally, you are the contact point for aligning all information between the Port and the shipping agents regarding their vessels for a safe operation. The monitoring of the international emergency channel and keeping the Nautical Manager and/or relevant authorities updated of any events and/or unusual circumstances also is part of your daily tasks. The Port Traffic Station operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

Qualifications:
Prospective candidates should meet the following requirements:

  • MBO+ working and thinking level with nautical background is preferred
  • Preferably in possession of a Marcom-B certificate or is willing to attend this course, including other job-oriented courses
  • Knowledgeable of shipping-related transport activities, legislation and regulations
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, Dutch, Spanish, and Papiamento
  • Good thinking ability
  • Ability to work-independently, team-player, problem-solver, and stress resistant
  • Computer skills: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Database queries programs
  • Flexibility to work in a shift environment
