Nautical Director of the Aruba Ports Authority, Mr. Irvin Gil, officially announced the ports’ partnership commitment to the Bicentenary Celebrations of the Kingdom, “200 Jaar Koninkrijk “events scheduled for spring 2015.

During a reception held onboard The Eendracht Mr. Martijn Boelen, Director of the Cabinet of the Governor of Aruba introduced the idea behind the Celebrations marking the bicentenary which will be held from 2013 to 2015.

From November 2013 to September 2015 the National Committee for the Bicentenary of the Kingdom will be organizing events and festivities that involve as many people and organizations as possible. The celebrations marking the bicentenary will take place, both in the European and Caribbean parts of the Kingdom. Because we are all citizens of the Kingdom, Mrs. Sanne Fettelaar, Project Leader in Aruba for the National Committee for the Bicentenary of the Kingdom is encouraging as many people and organizations as possible to take part in the celebrations. At present the Committee is already assisting with a maritime event on Aruba, and numerous on land events.

According to Tamara Waldron, Communications and Marketing Director, this is a great opportunity to celebrate and reflect upon our shared past, present and future. The focus on the transatlantic connections that bind us and on what has been achieved over the past two centuries ties in perfectly with what our ports stand for. After all, we are the island’s oldest economic portal and one of the mayor focus points of the economic development of our island.
